As a young boy, the sight of a big tent in the open field at the edge of the city where I lived would bring shouts of joy. The big giant tent rising like a mega structure that wasn't even there barely 24 hours ago would now assumed the porportions of a new metropolis, a world of itself where the little kids  and their parents would be entertained by those laughing clowns, and those big elephants, and the tigers....and so miracles always happen to little boys and girls when they see a giant tent which we now call the Big Top - the circus place.

As an adolescent, and while in college,  the sight of the Big Tent seemed less and less....and one day, I saw a big tent again in the open field at the edge of the city. It was a plain looking canvas tent, like a large canopy, and a big sign board on the ground declared " Roy Durman, Travelling Evangelist from Canada". That night, the parking grounds were full, thousands of people thronged the grounds where the tent was, filling the tent to the brim mono canvas and with hundreds more waiting outside the tent. It was a sight to behold ...people who were in need of prayer, the sick and the lame, the blind, the deaf and the aged and feeble...these were the people who were there for prayer. The next day, it was in the newspapers that many received their healing. Yes, miracles do happen under a tent!

Now, we do not see these big tents anymore in the city grounds, and so my heart would jump a beat or two whenever I see a smaller canopy or a smaller gazebo or a canvas tent anywhere in the backyard of a house in the city.

Unlike the mono color of the giant big top of the circus or the travelling evangelist, I now see open walled gazebos, 4 walls gazebos and 8 walls gazebos and tents with attractive sunny colors that will draw your attention a long distance away, often with some bright slogans or advertising a company.

There under these tents, canopies and gazebos we see instant exhibitions, mini trade fairs, wedding receptions, temporary sign up counters for some events, recruitment drives and promotional desks.

Tents, canopies and gazebos do really make things happen!

Now, as an adult, I found whenever I need some extra space in the outdoors or in the backyard, a gazebo, a canopy or a tent is the perfect solution to my too-hot, too- sunny, too-uncomfortable deck or patio.  With a new gazebo or tent or canopy, my deck or patio has become my favorite "outdoor living space" in my house!

Beneath the protection of a gazebo, friends can gather, families can relax and business associates can meet. Close fellowship has been fostered, relationships have been mended, rapport has been established between friends and acquaintances. Creating a special place has never been this easy with a gazebo, tent or canopy.

Yes, at this time and age, miracles of fellowship, of gathering and association still do happen under a tent!

It is difficult to provide accurate Tubes Winsor information, but we have gone through the rigor of putting together as much Tubes Winsor related information as possible.

For watercolors, is it better to use pans or half-pans?
As Tubes Winsor of now, I'm planning on buying from Winsor-Newton. I already have a set of tubes, so I'm trying to branch out.

So youre stood in your local art store having decided youd like a dabble with watercolours and youve made it to the paint section. In front of you lie a multitude of colours and you cant possibly make a decision with such little experience in painting.



Well, lets start to narrow it down a little. First of all were going to go for the student quality paint. Winsor and Newton do a great Cotman budget range in large 21ml tubes that I use myself. Theyre of excellent quality and will put you in good stead as you begin your watercolour journey.



I only use seven colours for all my paintings Raw Sienna, Burnt Umber, Light Red, Ultramarine Blue, Lemon Yellow, Paynes Gray and Alizarin Crimson.



Limiting your palette this way will help you get more intimate with your colours and you will quickly learn how they react when mixed together. With experience you will instantly know which colours to mix to replicate any colour that you see in nature.



My first colour, Tubes Winsor Raw Sienna, I use more than any other on my palette and is present in practically all my paintings. I start off many a sky with a light Raw Sienna wash and its also prominent in much land detail. Youll find it an excellent companion.



Burnt Umber is a good earthy colour and really comes into its own in winter scenes as the earth sticks out from the snow. Mixed with Ultramarine Blue its possible to get a whole range of greys, useful for cool shadows.



Light Red is a strong, fiery colour and only used in moderation too much and it will dominate your palette. A tube of red will last an eternity! Never use it on its own. Mixed with Burnt Umber its an excellent substitute for Burnt Sienna. Used with Ultramarine it will produce some lovely warm shadows.



Ultramarine Blue is predominant in many of my skies. It is also used with Lemon Yellow to produce a whole range of greens. Note there is no green on my palette, I prefer to mix them myself.



Lemon Yellow is an essential colour for my greens. A little with more Ultramarine will push your trees towards the horizon. As you come closer add more Lemon Yellow to warm the mix up for the foreground.



Paynes Gray can be used with many of the colours to generally darken the mix. I like to add it to Lemon Yellow to create rich, dark greens for foreground trees and foliage.



Alizarin Crimson is the second of my red colours and just like the Light Red, a tube of this will go a long way. I probably use it most with Paynes Gray for cloud shadows in the sky. Used with Ultramarine Blue it makes a cracking sky colour in winter scenes and looks lovely against the white paper as the shadows dance along the snow.



These seven colours have stood me in good stead. I generally try to use as few as possible to keep the colours harmonious in the painting. Often, especially in winter scenes, Ill restrict myself to just three Raw Sienna, Burnt Umber and Ultramarine Blue. Remember practise makes perfect. Happy painting!
